• Limitation of Use: A Spatial Metaphor

Exploring Marx’s ideas of use value, Limitations of Use: a Spatial Metaphor challenges the utility of a common object--the chair. The initial model is my own work chair in my studio space. By translating the physical attributes and dimensions of the chair as objects proportionate to the size of each of The Lobby Gallery’s rooms, the chairs forfeit their everyday use. Rather, they act as spatial references to the workspace where they were conceived. Conceptual and physical spaces collapse. The objects cease to be mundane expressions of ergonomics and reveal the delicate balance and dimensions of art production.
